Abstract
In his seminal work "The Biosphere", V.I. Vernadsky begins with words that are more poetic than dryly scientific: "Unique, singular in its kind, distinct and unrepeatable among other celestial bodies appears to us the face of the Earth - its image in space, delineated from without, from the side, from the distance of infinite celestial expanses"
